Information about GSM

The term GSM means Global System for Mobile Communication.

It is the world's leading cell phone standard.

GSM is a digital technology using time division multiple access transmission methods. Voice is digitally encoded via an encoder which emulates the characteristics of human speech. This method of transmission permits a very efficient data rate. One of the great strengths is the roaming capability. If the visited network is in the same country as the home network, it is known as National Roaming. If the visited network is outside the home country, it is known as International Roaming or Global Roaming.

 

According to the GPS GSM collars it is important, that the worldwide operating frequncies are different.

 

The GSM service is available for the following GSM networks:

      • 900 MHz and 1800 MHz, e.g. europe and
         
      • 900 MHz and 1900 MHz, e.g. north america
