Information about Drop Off Systems
Drop off units are used in wildlife tracking projects to separate the collar belts by a collar belt releasing mechanism for the retrival of the
device.
For that, a drop off is integrated into a GPS collar.
Two types of drop off are used. Pre timer ones and radio controlled ones.
Pre timer controlled drop offs work on a pre timer basis. A time periode has to be programmed in advance, f.ex. 50 weeks, after that time the
belts will be separated.
The radio controlled drop off separates the collar belt on a radio command.
It looks like, that until today, drops offs are not very reliable.
