The first step: Immobilization of the animal
The GPS collars have been ordered and successfully arrived (mostly with a little delay from the manufacturer ;-)). Additional all the tests with
the new GPS collars ran well. Now the complete project depends on the experience of the researcher crew in catching the animals.
Probably most wildlife species have to be immobilized in order to deploy the GPS collars properly on the neck of the animal.
Wildlife immobilization is
more complex than most people think. In contrast to the TV movies showing how easy it is to dart animals with an immobilizing gun, all insiders know that it is a very hard job.
